Best thing about Christmas? It has to be the World Cup

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. It always is, but this year it’s for the first time as a full-time part of the Scrolla.Africa family.

For me, the holidays have always been about family time. Cosying up in my hometown of Mafikeng, in the North West, every December. Watching Christmas movies, having weekend braais by the swimming pool, and watching the fireworks to bring in the new year.

As 2022 comes to a close with the holiday season looming, I hope to do the same this Christmas season.

Of course, with load shedding – a major concern in South Africa this year, some have opted to travel when possible while the rest have had to change their plans.

For me, I still carry the hope that things will ease in that regard and that the holidays can bring happiness to everyone, everywhere.

The Fifa World Cup in Qatar that has just gone by still looms large in my mind, and as a sports writer, my reflections and resolutions would not be complete without talking about the footballing action to look forward to.

The Premier League is something I foresee as being a big part of the festive celebration. Particularly since its resumption is set for Boxing Day after a month-long break.

The World Cup was an absolute treat, but as an avid Liverpool supporter, I am really looking forward to watching club football again.

To all our readers, I hope that your new year’s resolutions come true and I wish you a very happy holiday. You’ll Never Walk Alone.
