Bafana Bafana will only know their opponents for the September Afcon qualifying matches after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations draw in July.

It will be an anxious time for the team until then.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will conduct the draw in Johannesburg, and South Africa is anxious to know who it will meet on the road to Morocco 2025, the 35th edition of Afcon.

The draw will be conducted at SuperSport’s studios in South Africa at 2.30pm on 4 July.

A total of 48 teams will be drawn into 12 groups, each containing four teams. The top two sides from each pool will qualify for Afcon.

Bafana hopes its recent 1-1 draw with Nigeria and Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over Zimbabwe in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers will help it remain one of Africa’s top-ranked teams.

That will make them a top seed during the draw.

“The qualifiers are scheduled to kick off in September 2024 to determine the first 24 nations that will compete for Africa’s biggest event, the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in 2025,” the continental football governing body said.

“In attendance will be selected CAF legends, representatives of the participating teams, and members of the local organising committee for TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, among others.”

After claiming bronze at the 2023 Afcon tournament in Ivory Coast, Hugo Broos and his men fancy reaching the final in the next edition of the continental competition.

Bafana will also have an eye on the World Cup qualifiers that resume in March 2025.
