Bafana Bafana international Siyanda Xulu fears he may lose his place in the national team if he does not soon find a club to play for.
The 30-year-old centre back terminated his contract with Israel pro side Hapoel Tel Aviv in March and has not been able to find a new home yet.
Upon returning home, he trained with his hometown Durban team AmaZulu but it never amounted to anything concrete.
As he twiddles his thumbs at home, his situation has made it difficult for Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos to select him.
“Xulu left his club in March and it was not going to be ideal to select him in the friendlies against Guinea and France anyway because it’s been a while since he tasted action.
“I have been checking up on him because he is a valuable member of the team,” Broos said in June.
Xulu spoke to Scrolla.Africa after sweating it out at the gym as he makes sure he stays fit. He could not hide his frustration at the situation.
A former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns player, he said: “I am not used to staying this long without a club. My agent says he is doing his best. I had offers locally but I felt they didn’t suit me.
“My worry is the national team. The coach is right in not selecting me, I have no qualms about that. I just hope something good comes up soon.”
His agent Paul Mitchell, when contacted, also sounded frustrated with the situation.
“There’s nothing concrete on the table for Siyanda. As soon as we have something confirmed we will issue a statement.”
Broos will select his squad for the Liberia game next year in March for the Afcon qualifiers.
