Gqom star Babes Wodumo surprised her team by skipping a recording session to attend the King Shaka’s Day event and meet King Misuzulu kaZwelithini on Tuesday.
“I’m not here to perform, but my biggest dream is to meet King Misuzulu KaZwelithini in person. I never met him. I only see the King on television and in newspapers.
“But today I feel proud because I managed to come and meet him, although I was unable to come closer to him because of the protocol but I’m very proud and excited,” said Wodumo.
It was her first time at a Zulu nation ceremony. She saw the King doing traditional dances with other leaders.
Wodumo wore Swati attire and sat with VIP guests. Her friend Sandile Makhoba helped her get in.
“We were preparing for her to start the rehearsals of her new album that was supposed to take place on Tuesday morning,” said Makhoba.
“But Babes Wodumo changed at the eleventh hour and told us that she had another plan which was a trip from Durban to kwaDukuza to meet King Misuzulu,” he said.
The album was delayed after Wodumo’s husband, Mampintsha, died last year.
