Two police officers were shot and killed in cold blood while on patrol in Ivory Park on Friday night.

The attack happened just after 7.30pm in a busy part of Ivory Park Extension 9, an area known as Ema 9, where the streets are packed with small shops and taverns.

The officers were doing a routine patrol when three men walked up to them and opened fire without warning. One officer was shot inside the police van. The other was gunned down inside a nearby spaza. Both officers died at the scene.

The officers were a constable and a sergeant based at the Ivory Park Police Station.

After the shooting, the attackers stole both officers’ mobile phones, two service pistols and a rifle before disappearing into the night.

Police described the killing as a brutal and shocking attack on officers who were doing their job serving the community.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting. He was joined by several senior officers and spoke to detectives as well as visibly shaken members of the police who had gathered outside the spaza shop. He offered condolences to the families and colleagues of the two officers.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the South African Police Service had launched a massive manhunt for the suspects. She said specialist units had been deployed to assist with the investigation. “We will not rest until the suspects are found,” said Brigadier Mathe.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko also appealed to the public for help. She said residents may have seen the suspects fleeing and urged anyone with information to come forward. “Anything you saw or heard could help in the investigation,” she said.

Police have asked anyone with information to contact the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111. Tips can also be sent anonymously using the MySAPS app. Police have promised that all information will be treated as confidential.

A young mother from Alexandra, north of Johannesburg was killed just metres from her front door, and her family say they are left broken and terrified.

The 26-year-old woman had been walking home with her sister just after midnight on Thursday.
They had just climbed out of their staff transport on 3rd Ruth Street in Alexandra when a man hiding nearby shot her from behind.

She dropped to the ground. The attacker kept firing, hitting her five more times.
He then stabbed her six times while she lay helpless.

Her sister, who was with her, was not injured; however, she fainted from the shock as she watched the horror unfold.

Her family described her as “the sweetest and most harmless person”.

A family member who asked not to be named said they could not understand why someone would target her like this.

He said their pain is even heavier because this is not the first time tragedy has hit the same spot. “Her partner, the father of her children, was shot and killed in the exact place in November 2024,” he said.

Now the couple’s three children are left without both parents who died violently.

Nothing was taken from the victim.

No arrests have been made, and officers are still investigating.

The family now fear walking the same route she took every night after work. They say they want answers, justice, and safety for the children she leaves behind.

Police have launched a manhunt after seven men aged 20 to 30 were shot and burnt in a Philippi East home.

The victims had only lived in the area for three weeks after being transferred to work at Philippi mall.

A quiet night in Better Life township turned into horror when seven men were found shot and burnt inside a house in Philippi East, Cape Town.

The victims had been renting rooms in the house from local owner Sisa Mateyisi, who said he was devastated by what he saw.

“Someone came to me and said there were people looking for a place to rent,” said Mateyisi. “I agreed for them to stay in my house.”

He said there were three men at first, but it later turned out that 11 people were living there.

Mateyisi said he rushed to the house when a neighbour told him it was on fire. “When I got there, I saw the body of a man burning, and he was shot. Then I saw smoke coming from another room where six more men were shot and burnt,” he said.

A woman who had been sleeping in another room came outside screaming. Another tenant, who survived by pretending to be dead, only came out after police and paramedics arrived.

The victims had moved to Philippi three weeks earlier. “They were from Flagstaff in the Eastern Cape and had been transferred from Khayelitsha to work at Philippi mall,” said Mateyisi.

He said he is struggling to cope after seeing the crime scene. “I am not feeling okay. I don’t know what to do as there is a lot of blood,” he said.

Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut said detectives from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit are investigating.

“They have launched a large-scale manhunt to find those responsible for this brutal attack,” said Traut.

The DA walked out of the national dialogue but stopped short of leaving the unity government, saying it wants to block an ANC-EFF alliance.

The party will not support budget votes for departments led by ANC ministers facing corruption allegations and called the talks a waste of money.

Just like ANC promises that amount to nothing, so are threats by the DA of taking drastic measures in the unstable government of national unity.

And so, it was this week when the DA created an impression that it could walk out of the GNU.
But its threats of a big announcement amounted to a damp squib.

The Democratic Alliance has withdrawn from the R740-million national dialogue following the sacking of one of its deputy ministers by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa fired Andrew Whitfield, the deputy minister of trade, industry and competition, for taking an unauthorised trip to the United States. The move angered the DA and strained the already fragile partnership between the party and the African National Congress in the government of national unity.

The DA responded with a 48-hour ultimatum. It demanded that Ramaphosa fire ANC ministers accused of corruption and underperformance. But the president ignored the demand and reminded all parties that appointing ministers is his constitutional prerogative.

By Saturday afternoon, when the deadline passed, the DA confirmed it would not quit the unity government. However, the party said it felt disrespected by the ANC.

DA leader John Steenhuisen said they were staying in the GNU to prevent a possible alliance between the ANC, the Economic Freedom Fighters or the MK party. He said quitting now would be like abandoning the South African people.

“The DA remains committed to rescuing the country from corruption, fixing the economy and creating jobs,” he said.

On Saturday, the DA called on civil society and non-governmental organisations to boycott what it described as a pointless and expensive “talk shop”.

The party also announced it would vote against budget allocations for departments led by ministers accused of wrongdoing.

Steenhuisen said the DA had considered tabling a motion of no confidence in Ramaphosa. But it decided that removing the president now would hurt the country’s economy even more.

For now, the DA stays in government. But its growing frustration shows the unity government may be anything but united.

Three SAPS members have gone missing, and police are investigating a possible hijacking and kidnapping.

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has called on the public to help find them.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the three officers — two females and a male — were last seen on Wednesday, 23 April 2025.

Constable Cebekhulu Linda, 30, Constable Keamogetswe Buys and 20-year-old Constable Boipelo Senoge were travelling in a white VW Polo sedan from Bloemfontein to their deployment area in Limpopo when they vanished.

“Their last known location was the Engen garage near the Grasmere toll plaza on the N1,” said Mathe.

She said their vehicle’s tracking device and their cellphones have been off since the day they disappeared. Their vehicle’s registration number is JCL 401 FS.

A 24-hour Venue Operational Centre has been set up, and a full-scale search is underway. A high-level team of detectives and crime intelligence officers from Gauteng and the Free State has been mobilised to find them.

Mathe said the three were off duty at the time and never made it to their deployment area.

Patients were safely evacuated from Tembisa Hospital’s emergency unit after a fire broke out on Saturday afternoon.

The hospital is not taking new patients and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A fire broke out at Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit, forcing a quick evacuation of patients.

The Gauteng Department of Health said no one was hurt and there were no deaths.

Spokesperson Motala Modiba said hospital staff and emergency teams acted fast to move all patients to safer areas within the hospital.

Firefighters from the City of Ekurhuleni and Gauteng Emergency Medical Services managed to contain the flames and are now working to put out what’s left and check the damage.

They are also counting the patients who were in the affected area to make sure everyone is safe.

Modiba said the fire only affected the Accident and Emergency Unit and did not spread to other parts of the hospital.

He confirmed the hospital has stopped receiving patients and will remain on divert until further notice.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and the department is still investigating.

City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services’ Eric Maloka said the fire was under control, but thick smoke still hung over the hospital.

He said rescue teams were still on the scene and checking if nearby Zamokuhle Hospital was affected by the smoke.

18 people lost their lives in a crash at Van Reenen’s Pass when a truck, minibus and car collided on the N3, killing 13 adults and five children.

A baby was the only survivor and is fighting for life in hospital.

Bad driving, thick mist and non-stop rain all contributed to the crash. The truck driver fled the scene but police later caught him.

The crash was so severe that officials had to close the N3 from 8:30pm on Monday until 3am on Tuesday.

The South African Weather Service had warned people about the dangers. On Sunday, it issued a level 8 warning for storms and floods until Wednesday morning.

There were 25 crashes across the province on Monday, with most caused by flooded roads.

Two more people died in other crashes during the day. Many others were injured, some seriously.

In another incident, 17 people were hurt when their long-distance bus crashed into a broken-down truck near Colenso early on Monday.

Even government officials weren’t safe. Social Development MEC Mbali Shinga was involved in a crash near Ashburton on Monday morning.

Her spokesperson said a speeding car hit her backup vehicle, which then collided with her main car. The MEC was unharmed in the crash.

Some traffic officers meant to keep the roads safe also ended up as victims. Officers from the National Traffic Police were injured in another crash. They were part of a team working in KwaZulu-Natal during the holiday season.

AfroBeat sensation Tiwa Savage recently spoke about her take on relationships and deal breakers on a recent episode of the “The Receipts” podcast.

She went on to explain that throughout her life, she has never experienced the peak of sexual satisfaction for most women.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had an orgasm, and I don’t even have sex toys,’’ she said.

The music icon shared her newfound appreciation for sex toys, praising how they enable women to take control of their pleasure and explore their desires unapologetically.

The 44-year-old singer stated in clear terms that cheating isn’t a deal breaker for her and that she has never ended a relationship solely because of infidelity.

“I have never left a man because he cheated on me.”

She explained other things that may cause her to leave a relationship, labelling these as “deeper things”.

“I have been cheated on before. I found out and forgave every time. Every man I have ever been with has cheated, and I’ve never left them because of it. I’ve left for other reasons, but not because they cheated. Cheating is not my hill.”

“I’ve left due to so many reasons like drug abuse, emotional abuse, and being ghosted. What hurts is the lies about it, though. Maybe other people knew, and then I felt stupid about it, or they’ve known about it for a long time or if it’s close to home. The disrespect of it is why I could leave, but what is its actual act? I’ve never left a man because of it,” she said

Tiwa had been married to Tunji Balogun, popularly known as “Tee Billz”. Their marriage lasted from November 2013 to April 2016 when her husband accused her of infidelity, which she countered, debunking the claims and instead accused him of drug abuse, financial recklessness and abandonment.

Shortly after her divorce from Tee Billz, rumour had it that Tiwa and Wizkid were an item. These two have graced us with many pictures and videos of themselves.

The Attorney-General of Lagos State, Lawal Pedro, says the Human Organ and Tissue Transplantation Bill has been signed into law to prohibit illegal organ harvesting.

In a press briefing, Pedro said the signing shows the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to the welfare, security and prosperity of residents.

The other four new laws are Consumer Protection Law, Lagos Enforcement Training Institute Laws, Victims Assistance, Witness Protection Laws and Fire and Rescue Service Laws.

The Human Organ Harvesting and Tissue Transplantation Law addressed illicit organ trade and unethical medical practices.

Pedro explained that the framework seeks to regulate organ harvesting and transplant in the state and prohibit organ harvesting without proper authorisation as well as ban advertisements for the sale of human organs.

“This legislation protects individuals from exploitation and ensures medical procedures adhere to the highest ethical standards.

“Violators risk up to 10 years imprisonment or a fine of up to N10-million,” Pedro said.

The attorney-general also explained the three other new laws and urged all residents to familiarise themselves with the laws and to actively engage in their enforcement.

A consultant dermatologist, Folakemi Cole-Adeife, says the use of unsterilised makeup brushes can cause skin infections, monkeypox, hepatitis or even HIV.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Cole-Adeife, who works at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, said many women hired the services of makeup artists who use the same brushes for different clients without hygienically cleaning or sterilising in-between clients.

“As a lady… make sure you have your own set of makeup brushes or insist the brushes are sterilised properly… because there are several infections you can get from unsterilised makeup brushes.

“So, sometimes, if there are any germs, fungi, bacteria or viruses on those makeup brushes, they can get into your skin,” she said.

The dermatologist said she had seen patients who had developed skin infections or severe breakouts after having their makeup done, and there were cases of patients developing monkeypox or hepatitis from makeup, stressing that it was even possible to get viral infections, such as HIV, from unsterilised makeup brushes.

The dermatologist urged makeup artists to invest in proper sterilising equipment for their brushes.
