Lamontville Golden Arrows coach Mandla Ncikazi said his early target for the 2020/21 season is to get 30 points on the board as soon as possible.
“Starting well has everything to do with how you finish,” said Ncikazi.
Once teams reach 30 points they don’t have to worry about relegation. Polokwane City collected 25 points when they dropped out of the top flight league.
After beating AmaZulu 2-0 in a derby on Wednesday afternoon, Abafana Bes’thende is one of four teams that have not tasted defeat this season. Without big name players Ncikazi together with Mabhudi Khenyeza seem to be managing very well.
“We have a united team and my players play with heart. That makes me a very happy coach,” said Ncikazi.
“For the first time we have kept a clean sheet and to be honest I’m grateful for where we are right now. But at the same time I wanted us to be a bit higher as far as the log standings are concerned. I’m saying this based on the chances we missed in our past matches.”
Arrows are in sixth place after seven games having won two and drawn five. As for AmaZulu, they have lost three, drawn three and have only one and are in 12th place. Yesterday’s match was the last for an interim coach Allan Freese in charge. For Sunday’s home match against Chippa United, Amazulu will have new coach Benni McCarthy in charge after his appointment on Monday.
