South African authorities clarified that the two men arrested in Eswatini are not connected to the murder of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes.
The individuals, identified as brothers from Durban, were arrested in Eswatini and are set for extradition back to South Africa.
Their charges relate to a separate incident of murder and attempted murder in Berea, Durban, in March of the previous year, and not the high-profile killing of AKA and his friend, Tebello “Tibs” Motsoane, in Durban.
KwaZulu-Natal’s top police official, Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, addressed the confusion coming from Eswatini media reports, explaining the brothers’ alleged involvement in a Berea shooting, which resulted in one fatality and a survivor who got help at a nearby fuel station.
Mkhwanazi recognised the interest in AKA’s murder case but cautioned against reports that might put the ongoing investigation at risk.
This statement comes around the first anniversary of AKA and Tibs’ deaths, with police previously claiming progress in their pursuit of the suspects.
