Ghana’s national football team coach, Chris Hughton, faced an angry fan following their surprising defeat at the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

Ghana lost to Cape Verde in a dramatic match that ended with a last-minute goal.

The supporter, upset by the team’s performance, confronted Hughton at the team hotel to share his disappointment.

According to Henry Asante, the Ghana team media liaison, the fan told Hughton to either improve the team’s performance or resign from his role.

While the altercation was verbal and did not become physical, the fan was later escorted away by security, The Guardian reported.

This defeat follows another unexpected loss in the World Cup qualifiers against the Comoros Islands, adding to the team’s recent struggles.

Hughton spoke of his disappointment, mentioning the team’s game plan and intention to play offensively with a more attack-oriented team.

Despite equalising in the second half, Ghana was ultimately defeated by Cape Verde’s Garry Rodrigues.

Hughton, who has been coaching the team since March and served as a technical adviser during the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar, acknowledged the high expectations of the Ghanaian people and their passion for the game.

He shared his disappointment with the result, saying that he understood the importance of the tournament to the fans.

Hughton, who has a record of four wins in 11 games, continues to face the challenge of meeting the high expectations of Ghanaian football fans.
