ANC makes amputee wait four years for a wheelchair

Campaigning for the ANC in 2018 months before the general elections, Deputy President David Mabuza promised an amputee an automated wheelchair.

But it took four long years of pushing and pleading for the 65-year-old Selina Mnguni to finally receive the wheelchair she desperately needs.

Both of Mnguni’s legs were amputated years ago and she now uses prosthetic legs, but walking is incredibly difficult for her.

Mnguni has not even seen Mabuza, then the premier of Mpumalanga, since he made his promise to her.

However, she slammed him on Friday during an appearance at an imbizo by his successor, Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane in front of hundreds of Senotlelo villagers who attended to air their grievances.

Mtshweni-Tsipane, who rapidly covered up the party’s shame, responded to Mnguni by saying: “I committed myself to having the wheelchair delivered on Saturday by 10am. I already have your phone number; please send me your address because you will be receiving your wheelchair tomorrow.

“Thank you for raising the issue; it is true because you are the one in pain and injury.”

When following up on Mtshweni-Tsipane’s promise, Scrolla.Africa received confirmation from Mnguni, who cried with joy as she had finally received her automated wheelchair.

“On Saturday, Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane dispatched people to deliver my automated wheelchair. I’m overjoyed because I was using a stick and it was painful for me to walk because both of my legs were amputated and I’m now using artificial legs.”

When contacted for a comment, Mabuza spokesperson Matshepho Seedat referred Scrolla.Africa back to the Mpumalanga Premier’s office.
