ANC demands pay for community police

Community policing forum members deserve to be paid for their work, according to Bheki Mtolo, the ANC provincial secretary in KwaZulu-Natal.

Mtolo declared his stance at a media briefing on Tuesday, stating, “These brave people are on the front lines battling crime and putting their lives at risk. It’s high time they get the recognition and compensation they deserve.

“Stipends for members of the community policing forums will also be explored in order to ensure that they provide safety and security in their communities.”

The ANC is committed to enhancing civil society’s participation in the United Front Against Crime Campaign to establish safer neighbourhoods.

“Crime occurs in communities – the party’s Provincial Executive Committee has agreed to ensure that ANC structures and the society at large become integrally involved in the campaign to create safer neighbourhoods,” Mtolo said.

During the media briefing, Mtolo revealed a significant win in the battle against crime as the police apprehended 2,252 suspects for various crimes, including murder, attempted murder, and robbery.

In a recent raid in Cato Manor, five suspected hitmen were taken into custody with two AK47 assault rifles in their possession.

“We will continue to deploy more police, resources, and cutting-edge technology to combat gender-based violence and other crimes. And we will make sure satellite stations operate 24/7 to keep our communities safe,” he said.
