Amputation leaves top actor struggling to find work

Top actor Israel Matseke-Zulu is struggling to get gigs since his left leg was amputated.

Matseke-Zulu, who also has a career as a kwaito singer, saw his role in Gomora cut short earlier this year.

He said since he lost his leg he has not been receiving calls from directors for acting roles.

“Times are tough. I have not received any calls from casting directors and I think that’s because they know about my condition,” he said.

However, “I wish if I get a call, the director would give me a role that won’t be daunting since I am still recovering”.

The actor revealed he was not using a wheelchair but walking sticks.

He paid tribute to those close to him for the moral support they offered.

“My family, friends and neighbours have been good to me and for that, I will be grateful.”

He added that in the meantime he’s helping out a friend who is shooting a local film and has gone back to the studio to record music.

“It’s an exciting feeling to be focusing on music. Even before I got famous through acting, music has been my first love,” he said.

“My fans can look forward to good sounds when I am done with my album.”
