At the São Paulo Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso delivered a performance that will be remembered for some time.
At 42, the seasoned Spanish maestro delivered a masterclass in defensive driving that secured him third place by the narrowest of margins.
Guiding his Aston Martin with a mix of tactical genius and daring, Alonso kept the formidable Red Bull of Sergio Perez at bay for an amazing 16 laps.
Despite Perez having the advantage of the DRS overtaking help, it was Alonso’s strategic use of battery power and unpredictable racing lines that maintained his lead.
As the race neared its end, Perez briefly surged past, but Alonso’s response was swift and brave. Reclaiming his position with a daring move on the final lap, he crossed the finish line merely 0.053 seconds ahead of his rival.
This drive was the latest highlight in a season that has seen the Aston Martin team, rejuvenated by Alonso’s strength, climb to the front of the grid.
With a career defined by magnificent victories and tenacious drives, Alonso’s performance in Brazil has reignited much-loved stories of his greatest races.
