All eyes on Handré

PICK OF THE SPORT: How will Handré Pollard do on Sunday? You will have to watch the Springboks take on Tonga to find out, writes Dylan Bettencourt.

➤ As we get closer to the knock-out stages of the World Cup, only some gigantic upsets will change the destinies of the competing teams.

But if any of the favoured teams slip on a loose-lying banana peel everything could change.

Of course, the match all South African fans will be watching is the match against Tonga on Sunday evening.

The Springboks can’t possibly lose, can they? It will take an upset like when Japan beat the Boks in the World Cup pool match in 2015, but it is possible. The Boks need to score four tries and they have to win by a big points margin to secure their place in the semi-finals.

Statistically, Scotland is still in a position to go through to the semis, but that would take a massive effort from them in their last two matches. They play Romania this weekend and then they take on Ireland a week later.

There are even conspiracy theories flying around that Ireland could deliberately lose the match but that’s just hot air aided by Castle Lager. It is possible that Scotland could win against the magnificent Irish, but it is very unlikely.

All matches will be live on DStv.

New Zealand vs Italy on Friday at 9 pm.

Argentina vs Chile on Saturday at 3 pm.

Fiji vs Georgia on Saturday at 5.45 pm.

Scotland vs Romania on Saturday at 9 pm.

Australia vs Portugal on Sunday at 5.45 pm.

South Africa vs Tonga on Sunday at 9 pm.

➤ The Premier League continues to deliver blockbuster action, with this week’s game to watch being Liverpool hosting Tottenham on Saturday at 6.30 pm.

Big matches have come thick and fast in the league this season and this one is no different, with both sides having a point to prove.

Both sides are in good form while quietly going about their business but already, it’s a must-win for both sides.

Manchester United face Crystal Palace in the fixture right before, at 4 pm. Manchester City travel to Wolves at the same time with Arsenal in action against Bournemouth as well.

Chelsea only plays on Monday night, against London rivals Fulham.

All the Premier League action will be live on DStv channel 203.

➤ CAF Champions League action returns this weekend with both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in action.
