Six months after his fiance died tragically, award winning rapper AKA has finally managed to put together a song that pays tribute to Anele Tembe.
The song titled “Tears Run Dry” is AKA’s first single since the untimely death of Anele, and it was released on Monday 11 October.
In the song, which is characteristic of the expressive rapper, AKA pours out his feelings about the unexpected demise of Anele the only way he knows how.
“First thing on my mind, when I wake up. I cannot feel sunshine ‘cause you not by my side,” goes the chorus of the song.
“Nothing else can replace us, tried to break down and cry.
“But all my tears run dry.”
AKA goes on to reminisce about how the 22-year-old Tembe used to remind him to brush his teeth before he goes to sleep, but now he is “terrified to go to sleep” because he keeps seeing his beloved in his dreams.
Tembe died on the morning of 11 April after falling from the tenth floor of the Pepper Club Hotel in Cape Town, where the couple had stayed following AKA’s gig the previous night.
The couple had announced their engagement in February 2021 on social media, after keeping their relationship a secret for months.
