ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule is due to hand himself over to the Hawks and appear in court on Friday.
Both the ANC and the Hawks have confirmed that an arrest warrant has been issued.
If he does, Magashule will be the most senior political figure to be brought before the courts for State Capture crimes investigated by the Zondo Commission and the police.
ANC spokesperson Dakota Legeote told Scrolla.Africa: “Yes, it is true that there is a warrant of arrest issued to our secretary-general. The SG is in consultations with his legal team regarding the issue,” said Legeote.
Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale also confirmed with Scrolla.Africa that there is a warrant of arrest for Magashule. Mogale said Magashule is due to appear in the Bloemfontein High Court on Friday 13 November.
Magashule’s arrest is in connection with an allegedly corrupt R255-million asbestos contract in the Free State.
Magashule faces multiple counts of alleged transgressions, including alleged payments to certain third parties with the proceeds of the contract, allegedly on Magashule’s instruction.
