Never one to let a court hearing get in the way of a good party, Magashule celebrated his birthday outside Bloemfontein High Court after appearing on charges of corruption.
While the court proceedings were taking place, one fan even serenaded him from the steps outside with a cheerful rendition of happy birthday.
Suspended ANC Chief Whip and a former Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality mayor, Vusi Tshabalala, asked a supporter to sing a birthday song for Magashule outside court.
While outside the Bloemfontein High Court where Magashule was appearing on corruption charges, Tshabalala was heard saying he will be going to check on the birthday cake.
Tshabalala, who was suspended following allegations that he was campaigning for another party, was happy to ask a supporter, Samuel Motlohi, to sing the birthday song for Magashule while he recorded him with his cellphone.
Tshabalala thanked Motlohi and told him the video would be going viral.
Motlohi from Turflaagte in Mangaung told Scrolla.Africa: “Today is our former premier Ace Magashule’s birthday. I am not a perfect singer but I am feeling happy to be asked by ntate Tshabalala.”
He wished Magashule luck in his case.
“Everyone is innocent until proven guilty,” he said.
About 15 Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKVA) members were seen singing about 200 meters from the court building.
Magashule who turned 62 on Wednesday, is facing charges of corruption and money laundering related to the R255 million asbestos government contract.
