Abathembu queen dumps MK Party to back Holomisa in Eastern Cape

  • Queen Mcinga left the MK Party to join Holomisa’s UDM, saying Eastern Cape municipalities are in a state of disaster and need the kind of corruption-free leadership Holomisa showed in Transkei.
  • Mcinga has moved through the EFF, MKP, and co-founded Afrika Mayibuye with Floyd Shivhambu before returning to MKP and now settling in the UDM as her permanent political home.

Queen Nolubabalo Mcinga of the Abathembu Kingdom has found a new political home. She says this time it is permanent.

The queen recently left the MK Party and joined the United Democratic Movement of General Bantu Holomisa. She is calling on the people of the Eastern Cape to do the same, and to bring Holomisa’s party into power in the province’s municipalities.

“It is high time to bring back General Holomisa’s leadership through the UDM to govern our municipalities that are in a state of disaster due to corruption,” she said.

“We know how he developed the Transkei during his time and that is what we desperately need in this province.”

Mcinga’s political journey has been anything but straight. She entered active politics through the EFF and became a member of Parliament. She resigned and joined the MK Party. Last year she left the MKP and co-founded Afrika Mayibuye alongside Floyd Shivhambu, becoming the party’s Deputy President. After political infighting with Shivhambu, she returned to the MKP before making her way to the UDM.

She says the move feels right. Her connection to Holomisa goes back further than most people know.

“In 1998, General Bantu Holomisa and Roelf Meyer visited my hometown, Robert Sobukwe Town, where they planted a seed of political consciousness in me that has shaped my lifelong journey of activism,” she said.

“I have always been aligned with the values of the United Democratic Movement.”

Mcinga is from Graaff-Reinet, the hometown of struggle icon Professor Robert Sobukwe of the PAC.
