A 16-year-old minor is among the four suspects arrested for robbing corpses at the Enyobeni tavern in Scenery Park, East London last month.

The four suspects were spotted on CCTV camera footage allegedly stripping the deceased victims and dying patrons of their weaves, watches and cellphones.

This came after it was discovered that none of the 21 victims had a cellphone on them when they mysteriously died at the tavern on 26 June.

According to the SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana, the arrests are a sequel to the investigation which started immediately after the reported deaths of 21 children in the tavern.

Three of the suspects were arrested on Thursday the 21 July whilst one, a 16-year -old minor was arrested on Friday all from their homes in Scenery Park.

The teenager appeared in court on Monday and his case was postponed to 30 August for further police investigations.

He was released into the care of his parents in terms of the Child Justice Act which stipulates that an underage child may not be detained in the police cells.

The stolen items which have since been recovered included shoes, weaves, clothes and a watch belonging to some of the children who died during the incident.

According to the police some of the stolen items have been positively identified by families whilst others are yet to be identified.

The suspects face cases of theft, possession of suspected stolen property and defeating the ends of justice.

Police say the investigation into establishing the cause of death is still underway, at the right time, the affected families will be informed.
