In the male-dominated world of hip hop, only a few female rap artists stand out — and Bizzcuit is one of them.
Bizzcuit, real name Tholakela Mkwanazi, sets trends with not just her fashion sense but her music as well.
She has made popular songs such as “‘4By4” featuring Gigi Lamayne, “Ziyaduma” featuring Touchline with Supreme Phoenix and many other instantly recognisable hits.
Born in Soweto and raised in Tsakane, Brakpan, her love for music started through writing poetry.
“At a very young age, I had this form of expression that I had to share with people. I think that’s when I started to find my voice,” the 29-year-old told Scrolla.Africa.
Her music is a combination of different genres.
“I see my music as a rainbow — colourful and versatile,” she said.
“I think that’s the main thing that makes me Bizzcuit. I can go from rap to Kwaito to soul but still focus on the hip hop part of making the music.”
In her musical journey, she has worked on many types of projects and with industry giants and legends. She has been nominated twice in the best female hip hop artist category for the South African Hip Hop Awards.
“I’ve had a great journey with my music. The first and second EP recordings in my career were nominated for the South African hip hop awards.
“Another highlight was meeting rapper HHP and actually making music with him in his studio. It was a magical moment because I saw him as an idol. Making music with him was something else,” she said.
Apart from her performances, she was also on the soundtrack of the Netflix movie Happiness Ever After starring Khanyi Mbau, Renate Stuurman and Nambitha Benmazwi.
This year she will be on the soundtrack of the movie The Honeymoon, starring Tumi Morake, Minnie Dlamini and Kajal Bagwandeen and scheduled to be in cinemas from 31 March.
