Sonia Mbele called off her secret engagement after she discovered that her businessman fiancé had taken another wife.
The actress and executive producer, known for The Real Housewives of Joburg and Woza Nazo, was reportedly deeply in love.
But once she found out the truth, she ended the relationship without looking back.
“She refused to be a man’s second option,” said a source close to Sonia.
According to Sunday World, the businessman proposed to her in 2023 with a flashy silver ring.
The couple had enjoyed months of romance before Sonia chose to leave.
Friends say she valued her integrity more than the relationship and wanted nothing to do with an adulterous affair.
The actress, who played Lisbeth Molapo in Blood & Water and Cleopatra Mokwena in Family Secrets, knew the fallout could damage her public image.
Rather than risk her reputation, Sonia decided to walk away and focus on her career.
“She made it clear she would never settle for being anyone’s side chick,” a source said.
When asked about the engagement, Sonia said she never misled anyone and ended things to avoid unnecessary drama.
