- He says fame has taken away his privacy and made it impossible to live a normal life.
Amapiano artist Scotts Maphuma says fame has taken a toll on him — and he’s had enough of people demanding his time and energy like he’s a machine.
The musician broke his silence after videos started doing the rounds showing him lashing out when fans asked for pictures.
He says it’s not about being rude — he’s just overwhelmed.
“This is the last time I speak on this. I swear I’m not money. I can’t be loved by everyone. I can’t deal with the fact that my life is no longer private,” he said.
Scotts said he used to go to the mall and buy shoes without stress. “Now I have to think about being asked for pictures. I don’t mind a picture here and there, but I can’t be Scotts Maphuma every single minute.”
He said people forget that artists are human too.
“Has South Africa ever thought about how we feel? What if I’m hurt, or just not in the mood? I don’t live in the studio. Why must I always put on a smile because people are fans?”
Scotts says when he politely turns someone down, they call him rude. “So I’m supposed to give my time and energy by force just because of who I am? I’m sorry. Cancel me, South Africa — maybe then I’ll be free.”
