Police caught two women in Delft, Cape Town, with drugs, an unlicensed gun, and bullets after a tip-off about illegal items being kept at a house.

The women, aged 32 and 39, were arrested after the Delft Crime Prevention Unit searched their home.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said they found a VZOR 763 pistol, bullets of different sizes, magazines, and 2,057 mandrax tablets.

Police also seized 49 tubes of dagga, a packet of tik, a sachet of cocaine, nine mobile phones, and four scales.

“The suspects are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court once charged,” said Van Wyk.

In a separate operation, police and other law enforcement agencies arrested 22 people for possessing drugs and being in the country without proper documentation.

“Another multi-disciplinary operation initiated by Woodstock SAPS in collaboration with city law enforcement agencies and other role players was held at the Lower Church Street bridge to prevent robberies leading to the Cape Town Cycle Tour, yielding various successes, which include 23 arrests for undocumented persons and two drug-related arrests.”

The two drug-related arrests were also of people without proper documentation.

Yolisile Gangala, who lives in the area, said there are many people without papers in South Africa.

“I think it is easy for people to come to South Africa without following the proper processes to be here, and most people who commit crime are those people because they know they can’t be traced,” said Gangala.
