Vatican leader Pope Francis has a serious infection in both lungs, doctors found after new tests at a Rome hospital.
The 88-year-old church leader went to Gemelli Hospital on Friday after what doctors first thought was just bronchitis worsened over a week.
Tests showed the Pontiff has pneumonia in both lungs. Doctors are giving him strong medication, including antibiotics, to help him recover.
Despite being unwell, the Pope is keeping his spirits up. He even made phone calls to pray with and bless people at the Holy Family Church in Gaza.
However, he has had to cancel some important church events, including Mass on Saturday and a meeting with the public on Wednesday.
The Pope has battled health problems for many years. He had lung surgery when he was younger, underwent colon surgery in 2021, and has been hospitalised several times with pneumonia.
His doctors are monitoring him closely but say he is responding well to treatment.
