- Emergency teams quickly evacuated everyone from the crashed plane, as investigators tried to find out what went wrong.
A passenger plane turned upside down while landing at Toronto’s airport in heavy snow, sending 18 people to hospital.
The Delta Air Lines flight from Minneapolis crashed at 2.45pm on Sunday, 17 February, at Toronto Pearson Airport.
Among the injured, two people were badly hurt and had to be airlifted to hospital. A child was also taken to a children’s hospital in downtown Toronto.
All 80 passengers made it off the plane alive, with 12 people suffering minor injuries.
Passengers climbed out of the flipped aircraft with help from flight crew and emergency workers who rushed to the scene.
The plane belongs to Endeavor Air, which is owned by Delta Air Lines.
Ontario’s Premier, Doug Ford, said he was thankful nobody died in the crash.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is looking into what caused the crash. American safety officials are also helping with the investigation.
The crash happened during a major snowstorm that had already caused many flight delays at the airport.
Airport workers quickly cleared the runway, and flights started taking off again soon after the crash.
Officials say there were no unusual winds, and the runway was functioning properly when the plane crashed.
