Steve Komphela has dumped Golden Arrows and returned to Mameldi Sundowns to take up his old role of senior coach.
He bounces back at Chloorkop just three days after Rhulani Mokwena was relieved of his duties as head coach.
“I am very excited to be back at Mamelodi Sundowns where I was always inspired and treated with respect and love,” Komphela told the Sundowns website.
“I am committed to contributing to the club achieving its goals in South Africa and on the African continent.”
Komphela previously worked as a first-team coach as well as the senior coach role, the role which he now returns to.
In his previous stint at Sundowns, he had a strained relationship with Mokwena and is on record saying he left because he felt unwanted by the 37-year-old.
The former Kaizer Chiefs coach is now working under Manqoba Mngqithi who is leading Sundowns’ pre-season training.
But Mngqithi’s agent Mike Makaab told Gagasi FM that his client would not be the head coach and negotiations are ongoing for him to be reassigned to a different position within the coaching set-up.
That leaves Sundowns searching for a new coach amid reports they want someone from Europe.
The Brazilians will leave for Austria for a pre-season training camp “in a few days” time according to the club.
