Nigeria – Same-sex relationships are illegal in Nigeria, but a secret event called the Fola Francis Ball was held to honour a late transgender woman. Despite the risks, over 500 people attended the event near Lagos. The event allowed people to express themselves freely, with bold fashion and makeup, it was a space for the queer community to enjoy acceptance and freedom.
USA – WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is set to become a “free man” after agreeing to a plea deal with US authorities. Released from a British prison after five years, he travelled to the Northern Mariana Islands, a US territory, to plead guilty to conspiracy to obtain and share national defence information. Expected to be sentenced to five years and two months, he will receive credit for time served. Assange’s thrilled wife Stella asked supporters to track his flight.
Israel – Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant met with US officials to discuss the Israel-Hamas conflict and tensions with Hezbollah in Lebanon. Progress was made on force build-up and munitions supply. Gallant spoke on Israel’s capability to inflict significant damage in Lebanon if war occurs and noted the Israeli Defense Forces have eliminated 400 Hezbollah terrorists. Gallant stated that most of Hamas’ military structure has been dismantled. He thanked the US for its support.
Australia – Australia has recalled Uncle Frog’s Mushroom Gummies. The gummies, which caused hospitalisations due to symptoms like hallucinations and vomiting, are the brand’s Cordyceps and Lion’s Mane gummies. Symptoms included seizures, anxiety, drowsiness, and a racing heart. Authorities are investigating the products’ toxicity. Nationwide hospitalisations have prompted warnings against using the products. The Uncle Frog’s website has been temporarily shut down.
