Jwaneng Galaxy coach Morena Ramoreboli decided to stay and make history in Botswana despite hearing that his mother had passed away back home.

Ramoreboli was trying to win his second consecutive league title, with the Orange FA Cup final up for grabs, when he received the news of his mother’s death.

The 43-year-old’s decision to stay behind in Botswana, and grieve afterwards, is one he feels his mother would have wanted.

“We had two games left when I received the news about my mom’s passing. I had to remain as we had to prepare. I couldn’t just leave. When God gives us strength to face certain things, we must be thankful,” an emotional Ramoreboli told FARPost.

Feeling motivated by his mother’s support of him over the years, Ramoreboli delivered Galaxy the league and cup double, and he knows that she would have been proud of him.

“I think I was fortunate to be born into a football family. My mom loved football. We made sacrifices for the game. You won’t make the sacrifice if you’re not passionate and prepared to go the extra mile,” he said.

“If my mother were alive, she would have wanted me to work and achieve bigger things. She was special to me.”

Opening up on his future, Ramoreboli said a return to South Africa and the PSL could be in his plans later.

However, for now, he is focusing on strengthening the squad at Galaxy and taking them as far as possible in the Caf Champions League.
