The ICC T20 Cricket World Cup in USA and West Indies continues to provide low-scoring thrillers even following the conclusion of the New York leg of games.
The Nassau County Stadium in the Big Apple is being disassembled after successfully hosting an array of group stage games, including all of South Africa and India’s opening three matches.
While the two sides remain unbeaten heading into the super eight stage, their final group games were not without some surprise.
The Proteas managed a one-run victory over Nepal after scoring only 115/7 in their 20 overs and then brilliantly defending it in Kingstown, St Vincent.
The match took place in the early hours of Saturday morning; and those that were up to watch it in the Rainbow Nation were duly rewarded for their efforts as Tabraiz Shamsi and company defended the total.
India’s encounter with Canada on Saturday afternoon in Florida was an opportunity for Rohit Sharma’s men to tighten a few screws in the batting department ahead of the tournament’s business end.
However, along with low-scoring affairs, this tournament has also brought forth a lot of rain — particularly in the USA.
This time, the drainage facilities at the ground could not cope with the wet outfield and overcast conditions, resulting in the match being abandoned without a single ball being bowled.
South Africa and India will play in different groups in the super eight. They could meet in the semi-finals or final should both sides adapt to the Carribbean conditions and continue getting results.
The Proteas will next face the USA in Antigua on Wednesday while India will take on Afghanistan in Barbados on Thursday.
