Mauricio Pochettino left Chelsea with mutual consent after just one season in charge.

The 52-year-old Argentinian, appointed last May, guided Chelsea to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League this season.

Despite leading a young Chelsea side to the Carabao Cup final and FA Cup semi-finals, Pochettino’s time ended after securing European football with a solid finish to the season.

Chelsea had ended the previous campaign in 12th place.

“Chelsea FC can confirm that the club and Mauricio Pochettino have mutually agreed to part ways,” the club said in a statement.

Pochettino expressed his gratitude to the club: “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history. The club is now well-positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”

Assistant coaches Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and Sebastiano Pochettino also depart.

Following a final-day win against Bournemouth, Pochettino said he was unsure about an end-of-season review, but after talks on Monday, both parties decided he would step down.

Sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley stated: “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time, and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”

Pochettino is now set to manage the World XI at the Soccer Aid charity match in early June at Stamford Bridge.

Potential replacements for Pochettino include Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna, Leicester’s Enzo Maresca, Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, Girona’s Michel, and Brentford boss Thomas Frank.
