Delight for Dortmund in Paris

Borussia Dortmund defeated PSG to book their place in the Uefa Champions League final at Wembley.

Arriving in France with a slim 1-0 advantage was something that Edin Terzic’s Dortmund side would have been weary about, especially considering PSG’s second leg record in the competition.

The Parisians were relentless in pursuit of levelling the tie on aggregate, registering 30 attempts and keeping 70% of the ball on the night.

Four efforts even hit the woodwork for the French giants, but time would run and the Dortmund goal would not be breached.

PSG hit the woodwork 12 times in the competition this season — the highest tally for any team on record in a single Champions League campaign.

Half of those efforts came across the two legs against Dortmund, who had the luck and tactics to prevail.

The Bundesliga club went on to double their advantage ensuring they would win on the night and not just based off their performance at home.

Mats Hummels’ header early on in the second half made him the third oldest player to score a Champions League semi-final goal — and it would be the decisive moment as his side progressed 2-0 on aggregate.

Europe’s elite crown continues to evade PSG, whose star man Kylian Mbappe was kept quiet in what was seemingly his final Champions League appearance for the club he plans to depart at the end of the season.

Dortmund will find out their Wembley opponents on Wednesday, with the second leg of the second semi-final between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich perfectly poised at 2-2.
