No late gambles as Haaland nets poker for five-star City!

Erling Haaland returned to the Premier League starting eleven with four goals in Manchester City’s 5-1 win over Wolves at the Etihad on Saturday.

After bagging a goal off the bench against Nottingham Forest last time out, the Norwegian mega-star was back from the beginning and treated the blue half of Manchester to a first half hatrick.

Haaland bagged two penalties before and after being set up by Rodri for a fine header.

He then made it four after the break before Hwang Hee Chan got a consolation for the visitors. It would be to no avail as Julian Alvarez capped off the flawless City performance with a fifth late on.

Only Gabriel Jesus, who netted a 53rd minute goal against Watford in 2022, has scored four goals in a Premier League game sooner than Haaland — whose poker came inside just 54 minutes.

Jesus, this time, was involved in Arsenal’s title challenge as he assisted Declan Rice late on in a 3-0 win over Bournemouth at lunchtime.

The Gunners came away with all three points at the Emirates after Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard opened the scoring against the Cherries.

Mikel Arteta’s side remain a point clear at the top, however City still have a game in hand over the North Londoners.

Liverpool, now eight points off the summit, take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. And the Reds will very well know that their outside chances of title glory have only further faded following Saturday’s results.
