Alan Winde, the Western Cape premier, has proposed that the DA in KwaZulu-Natal learn how his province is successfully governed to save KZN’s crumbling economy and water infrastructure.

Winde was speaking in Durban at the DA “Ready to Govern Summit” held on Monday.

He said the DA’s style of governance in the Western Cape is the key to saving KZN.

“The DA government in the Western Cape, underpinned by DA policy and matched with a professional civil service, can drive economic growth that delivers jobs.

“This is highlighted by our provincial manifesto pledge to deliver 300,000 jobs to the people of KZN,” he said.

The summit was also addressed by Cape Town metro councillors who unpacked plans to help KZN govern its municipalities professionally.

The city’s MMCs for water and sanitation and human settlements, Dr Zahid Badroodien and Carl Pophaim, revealed plans that have helped Cape Town to transform the city’s water and housing landscape.

They said they plan to spend R43-billion on infrastructure in Cape Town over the next three years to ensure water availability and that the city plans to build 150,000 houses by 2025.

Western Cape health MEC Nomafrench Mbombo said that KZN under premier candidate Chirs Pappas would need to adopt their plans that had resulted in many health facilities improving their services to the people.

Pappas said that good governance leads to good service delivery.

“It is now absolutely clear and as supported by our Premier in the DA-led Western Cape government and MMCs in the City of Cape Town, that the DA has the right manifesto and policies in place that will rescue KZN and deliver growth and jobs for the people of this province,” he said.
