King Misuzulu KaZwelithini’s commanders have banned ANC KZN chairperson Siboniso Duma from all Zulu royal activities.
The decision was taken after the commemoration event of King Dinuzulu kaCetshwayo.
The event was overshadowed by Duma grabbing the microphone and interrupting the monarch’s traditional prime minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi.
The incident ended in a confrontation as angry Zulu regiments attacked ANC members with spears and pangas.
Induna Muzi Nyandeni told Scrolla.Africa on Sunday that they have decided to protest against the humiliation of King Misuzulu KaZwelithini by Duma.
“We wanted to beat him but we were hindered by the protocol which doesn’t allow us to raise arms in front of the king,” said Nyandeni.
“Duma must tell us if he is the one to appoint the traditional prime ministers of the Zulu nation. He has openly challenged the Zulu King and defied his decision to appoint Reverend Buthelezi. We took a decision to ban him from all royal events.”
Nyandeni said the full details of their decision will be unpacked on Wednesday at a media briefing in Durban.
Duma caused havoc when he stood up and grabbed the microphone from Buthelezi when Buthelezi told President Cyril Ramaphosa that he wished the provincial leadership could copy his exemplary conduct by showing respect for the king.
Buthelezi was about to report to President Cyril Ramaphosa about ANC provincial secretary Bheki Mtolo’s insult to King Misuzulu KaZwelithini when Duma grabbed the microphone and shouted at Butherlezi.
Speaking while closing the event, former KZN premier S’bu Ndebele was furious about the incident and called for unity among the Zulu nation.
Meanwhile, the ANC and IFP have announced plans to meet to discuss peace and political tolerance in the province ahead of the 29 May elections.
The ANC said on Sunday that they were disappointed that after a successful event, their members were attacked by IFP members who were bused in from a hostel.
“We have been informed about the efforts of both the ANC and IFP leadership in KwaZulu-Natal to ensure that violence never resurfaces in any part of the province,” said the party.
