Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi is safe after experiencing a terrifying hijacking ordeal on Thursday night in Thokoza, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng.
The club’s media officer Thandi Merafe said: “Yes, it’s true. Our goalkeeper Mr Melusi Buthelezi was involved in a hijacking last night. The player is safe and unscathed. We are happy that he is safe and unharmed. As a club we kindly request that Melusi be given space to recover from this traumatic ordeal,” the Citizen reported.
Buthelezi has been at Pirates since the beginning of the 2023-24 DStv Premiership season after joining the Buccaneers from TS Galaxy.
The 25-year-old got a chance to introduce himself to the club after Sipho Chaine’s injury last year during a match against Cape Town Spurs.
This is not the first time Buthelezi has experienced such a horrific ordeal.
While playing for TS Galaxy, Buthelezi suffered stab wounds when he was a victim of a hijacking while travelling with his brother in 2022.
