King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has called on politicians to stop fighting and to make peace in KwaZulu-Natal.
He was speaking during the official opening of the province’s Legislature in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday.
“I … appeal for peace [and] tolerance between all political parties that will be campaigning in this year’s elections. I wish you all the best of luck,” he said.
The King has also ordered that the killings of councillors and amakhosi in KZN must come to a stop with immediate effect.
King Misuzulu arrived in style with his traditional prime minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi.
Buthelezi echoed the King’s words.
He said politicians must stop fighting and make peace in KZN.
“We are happy that the King has spoken about peace in KZN – we don’t want to fight,” said Buthelezi.
The King’s deputy prime minister, Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza, said he was happy with the King’s address.
“When he spoke about the killing of traditional leaders in KZN it was so touching. We needed to hear that and we want to make a clarion call that those who are killing us must stop,” he said.
EFF KZN chairperson Mongezi Thwala said the party was more than happy to hear the King speaking about peace.
ActionSA KZN leader Zwakele Mncwango described the King as a father figure.
DA KZN leader Francois Rodgers said the party wants the ANC to abide by the King’s advice.
