“Jesus lives in me and I will live for Him,” wrote Daddy Yankee in a major career change.
Were you singing along to “Despacito” in 2017? Who wasn’t? The song, a global smash by Puerto Rican stars Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and later, Justin Bieber, ruled radios and hearts around the world.
It topped charts in 47 countries, including 11 weeks at the UK’s top spot and tying US chart records.
The YouTube music video? A historical hit, only beaten by “Baby Shark”!
Daddy Yankee (real name: Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez) dropped a career-changing bombshell at his La Meta tour finale, NBC reported.
The hitmaker of “Gasolina” and “Limbo” fame is hanging up his rap hat for a life devoted to Jesus.
Yankee shared, “My people, this day for me is the most important day of my life. And I want to share it with you because living a life of success is not the same as living a life with purpose.”
He remarked feeling empty despite his fame, then added: “Someone was able to fill that emptiness.”
Using a Bible verse, Yankee said, “What good will it be for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?”
He added: “All the tools that I have in my possession such as music, social networks, platforms, a microphone — everything that Jesus gave me, is now for His kingdom.”
