Kelly Khumalo dropped again

Kelly Khumalo has suffered another setback as she was removed from the line-up of the upcoming Maseru Jazz Festival.

The festival’s management said they took this decision to protect the event’s integrity and give Khumalo time to address accusations stemming from the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.

During the trial, which is ongoing, SA Police Service cellphone analyst Lambertus Steyn testified that a phone linked to Khumalo received calls from a number associated with alleged hitman Fisokuhle Ntuli months before Meyiwa’s murder.

Although no direct evidence implicates the renowned Afro-pop musician in any crime, the festival organisers decided to act cautiously.

The Maseru Jazz Festival, scheduled for 24 September in Mafikeng, boasts a star-studded line-up, including Mafikizolo, Nathi Mankayi, Tebogo Moloi, and DJ Phat K.

The management emphasised that Khumalo is considered innocent until proven otherwise in the eyes of the law but stressed the importance of safeguarding the festival’s reputation and giving her space to address the issues arising from the trial.

This is not the first time Kelly Khumalo has faced gig cancellations. Just days ago, she was also removed from the Tribute to Women Festival line-up in Johannesburg.

Despite the setbacks, the Maseru festival management has assured the public that a suitable replacement for Khumalo will be announced soon.
