The 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey on Monday morning has left more than 26,000 people dead.
The number is expected to increase in the next few days as rescue teams continue searching for bodies under the rubble.
The earthquake is already among the most devastating in the last two decades, and is ranked seventh on a list of deadliest earthquakes.
The tragedy in Turkey and Syria has already claimed more lives than the Fukushima disaster in Japan in 2011, in which 20,000 died.
The United Nations have sent two convoys of trucks filled with aid to both Syria and Turkey.
Cold winter conditions have made rescue efforts that much more difficult ,with the World Health Organization predicting a “secondary disaster”. Many of the survivors have been left homeless and the cold could lead to “worsening and horrific conditions”,
