This weekend, Beyoncé officially became the most awarded artist at the Grammys.

Coming into the day as the most-awarded artist in the Best R&B Song category, she also took home trophies for Best Dance/Electronic Recording (“Break My Soul”), Best Traditional R&B Performance (“Plastic Off the Sofa”), Song of the Year (“Break My Soul”), Album of the Year (Renaissance) and five other nominations.

This is the first year Beyoncé has been nominated in a Dance/Electronic category. In true Bey fashion, in her own words, she did not come here to “play with you b*tch*s, she came to slay”, winning three grammys.

You have to understand the extent of the Beyoncé influence even on a grand organisation like the Grammys. A few years ago, Beyonce snubbed the Grammys after they decided her album Lemonade did not deserve the Record of the Year award, which had been the case for a few albums.

It caused an uproar because Lemonade was a masterpiece, so much that when Adele went on stage to receive Album of the Year for her Album 25, she even acknowledged that the Grammys had messed up and the award should have gone to Bey.

Backstage, Adele added, “What the f*ck does Beyoncé have to do to win Album of the Year?”

And with true Mother Bey pettiness, the artist stopped attending the Grammys but still attended her husband Jay Z’s annual pre-Grammys party, #RocnationBrunch which is hosted on the day before the big night.

Her star power is so incredible that her fans also boycotted watching the Grammys and that was bad publicity. And now the Grammys have to eat humble pie and award the artist even for a less than famous song “Plastic off the Sofa” but she probably deserves that too.

South Africans are still mad at her for not releasing the African dates for her upcoming world tour, but for now, we all love to love Beyoncé!
