During his prime time on the football pitch, Junior Khanye was a darling amongst Kaizer Chiefs fans and opposition alike due to his wizardry and charisma.

But fame got to his head; he went wayward by partying too much, and his promising football career was abruptly cut short.

However, after being roped in by an online television football channel as an analyst last year, he became an instant hit with the viewers because of his hard-hitting and honest analysis.

Unfortunately, his assessment of the game also earned him haters, who believe he is bitter because he wasted his golden chance when he was a professional player for one of the biggest clubs in Africa.

Riding on his fame, Khanye has decided to venture into music by compiling an amapiano single which is to be released next month.

“The title is ‘Obrigado’ and I have assembled talented musicians in DJ Muzi [and] Mbali. Mbali and I are the vocalists. The single was produced by Super and Sticks Beatz,” he told Scrolla.Africa.

He said he came up with the idea of doing a song with the two producers when they performed at a celebrity football competition last year.

“Cassper Nyovest, Big Zulu, AKA and many stars played at the Bidvest Wits University stadium in Johannesburg.

“They then called me and told me how talented I was, and wanted to work with me from then on. The song was supposed to be out last year, but we didn’t have time as I was busy with other campaigns,” Khanye explained.

The Daveyton-born Khanye believes the song will be warmly received by the public since he’s back in the limelight.

“And on the song I basically talk about my experience as a player, how I flopped and how grateful I am to God for another chance,” said Khanye, who says he is now born again – and in the taxi industry.
