Was he lost or was he suicidal?
A warthog found a strange place to look for shelter in Bela-Bela: the Camo Meat game butchery.
Staff were just cashing up for the day when the warthog ran into the shop and headed straight for the kitchen.
The butchery owner Stephen Nel told Die Pos that the animal seemed lost.
“The warthog went into the kitchen behind the building but could not seem to find his way out,” he said.
No one knows for sure where the wild animal came from.
But residents suspect that it may have escaped from a nearby nature reserve, Forever Resorts.
According to the Citizen, the local fire brigade was summoned to the butchery and was able to catch the warthog.
The animal — still intact — was later taken to the Forever Resorts nature reserve.
