Makhadzi, regarded as one of the nation’s top performers, has announced she’ll never perform at the South African Music Awards (Samas) again following her controversial set at Sunday’s event.

The 26-year-old star says she was treated unfairly when her performance was cut short because of technical issues.

Despite the difficulties, the “MaGear” singer carried on with her performance at Samas 28.

Makhadzi, however, was not pleased with how the award ceremony handled its audio issues and the standard of the live production.

The singer said the problem started when she declined to use Samas’ dancers.

“I always want to perform with my own dancers. But the most important thing is how can you let me rehearse five minutes when others [were] given unlimited time. Rehearsing with a cell phone in front of the band.”

She expressed her annoyance on Twitter before deleting her tweets. She claimed that although some people don’t think she completely understands English, she is aware of the significance of rehearsals.

“But to me, a rehearsal was to make me feel like I don’t deserve to be in the industry. And I don’t deserve the love I get from my fans. I remain the queen and I am proud of myself and my work,” she tweeted.

Makhadzi won the Sama for Best Collaboration for “Ghamana” featuring Prince Benza.

Her fans took to Twitter to support their superstar and blamed the Samas for humiliating her.

“Worry not our African Queen, their mission failed, because regardless of everything that happened you still performed and gave it your all;” @rudzani-rachael wrote.

Another user @Ms_Mahlako said “SAMA28 The SAMAs we know Makhadzi is a world class performer shame, your low budget band was the one that was horrible yhooo.”

Her manager Brenden Maseko told Scrolla.Africa that Makhadzi was not available to comment regarding the tweets on Monday.
