Pitso Mosimane continued to rewrite South African football history on Thursday when he was handed a CAF Pro licence certificate by the South African Football Association (Safa) president Danny Jordaan.
Mosimane is the first coach in the country to attain this certificate, which is equivalent to the UEFA A-licence.
Jordaan called a meeting with the media at Safa House to personally announce the CAF Pro licence and to hand the certificate to Mosimane.
“We are here to honour coach Pitso Mosimane with his CAF Pro licence. He is the first coach to receive it. He can now coach any team in the world,” said Jordaan.
The certificate puts Mosimane on the same level as the likes of Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho, to name but the few who are highly rated as the best coaches in the world of football.
This achievement should be seen by other Mzansi coaches as encouragement.
The qualification could now see the former Bafana Bafana mentor being scouted by big European clubs – and it could also pave his way back to the struggling national team’s hot seat.
“I’m humbled to be recognised by my federation and the Moroccan federation for all their support,” said Mosimane.
Mosimane, who has won the Champions League title with two of the best teams in Africa (Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly), is set to launch his big football project in September.
The Pitso Mosimane soccer school project could help both young boys and girls achieve their dreams of becoming professional footballers.
His project has already been endorsed by Safa and his vision is not only to develop players but also those who want to become future coaches.
The support from Safa should be a big achievement on its own for Mosimane. Let’s hope the Department of Education will follow suit and give him its support.
