The wife of motivational speaker Vusi Thembekwayo has allegedly filed for divorce, claiming he battered her repeatedly throughout their 13-year marriage.
Sunday World reports that Palesa Mahlolo-Thembekwayo has cited gender based violence and cheating as the reason behind the divorce.
She filed an assault charge against the businessman in December 2021 at the Douglasdale police station.
Meanwhile Thembekwayo reported to police that after returning from a business trip, he found his wife intoxicated. He packed her luggage and allegedly chased her out of their house.
The statement from his lawyer read, “Please, however, note that our client wishes to place on record that his wife has a history of substance abuse, having overdosed on more than one occasion, and was admitted to a centre for help in this regard.”
The motivational speaker was trolled on social media when he denied assaulting his wife.
In a statement,Thembekwayo said, “As it stands I maintain my innocence and will prove this in the appropriate platform and trust the Justice Department to deal with it accordingly. I have always been an advocate of equality, committed to eradicating all forms of GBV and I believe that my record speaks for itself in this regard.”
