After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the horse racing event and informal fashion parade, the Dundee July, returns this weekend to KwaZulu-Natal.

The theme for spectators this year is “Royalty”, as they will gather at the Dundee Horse Track Racing on Saturday to watch the 12 races on display.

The event will be free and to improve security, the KZN MEC of Sports, Arts and Culture Hlengiwe Mavimbela has requested that people attending obtain free tickets available at TicketPro.

“This is to ensure that we are able to control numbers and safeguard the safety of our patrons who will be attending the event,” Mavimbela said in a statement.

Similarly to the Hollywoodbets Durban July and the J&B Met of Cape Town, this year the Dundee July is celebrating its 17th anniversary by giving back to the community.

Organisers have announced that some of the proceeds of the event will go towards “home stays” accommodation. Benefiting locals, home stays invites visitors of Dundee to rent accommodation from certified home owners, who do not fit into the guesthouse category.

Last year there were no less than 30 establishments in the programme, according to a statement released by the department on Tuesday.
