Master KG’s groundbreaking international hit “Jerusalema”, which features singer Nomcebo Zikode, has now reached 500 million views on YouTube.
“It was all a dream!! Half a billion is here,” wrote Master KG on his Instagram page on Saturday.
Master KG has become the first Mzansi artist and YouTuber ever to reach over 500 million views on the platform.
The only other current artists who have come anywhere close to the numbers he makes on YouTube are artists from his home province Limpopo, Makhadzi and King Monada.
The video, which was released on 13 December 2019, had already reached over 50 million views by July 2020.
His 2018 “Skeleton Move” song, featuring another amazing singer, Zanda Zakuza, comes at number two on his music video catalogue with over 38 million views. That is followed closely by the remix of “Jerusalema” with over 29 million views since its release in October 2020.
Separately, the Latin American remix of “Jerusalema” has collected a whopping 60 million views, featuring Colombian singer Greeicy and Venezuela rapper Micro TDH, with the original singer Nomcebo still on the song.
Master KG surpassed impressive numbers collected by the Cape Town’s four-member rap group known as Die Antwoord at their prime. Their 2012 international hit titled “Baby on Fire” has raked over 260 million views on YouTube with close to two million likes.
