South African dance music duo famously known as the Major League DJz have been nominated for a BET Award for Best International Act.

From hip hop to afro-house and now amapiano, the Major League DJz have been instrumental in the growth of each genre in South Africa in recent years.

Twin brothers Bandile and Banele Mbere – who make up Major League DJz – have been promoting local amapiano abroad through their global Balcony Mix Live Experience shows, which have been hosted in venues around the UK.

The Balcony Mixes also feature other artists like Young Stunna, who has been nominated in the Viewer’s Choice category of the BET Awards Best International Act.

The 31-year-old twins were born in Boston in the US but were raised in Gauteng, where they formed the unstoppable band of DJs. The pair were nominated for the BET Award alongside UK’s Little Simz and Tems from Nigeria, who have been nominated in the Best New Artist category.

Major League’s last album Outside, with the amapiano hit single “Bakwa La”  featuring Nvcho, Mthandos and C4 DJs, was released in December last year.

Meanwhile, “Adiwele” hitmaker Young Stunna, who is being groomed by DJ Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa, also got a nod from BET, just after becoming its Amplified International Artist of the Month in May 2022.
