EFF failure in KZN coalition talks blamed on bully boy tactics

The collapse of the EFF’s coalition negotiations with the IFP and the ANC in KZN is being blamed on bullying by the red berets.

The EFF wanted to be given mayoral and speaker positions in many of the KZN hung municipalities, a request that frustrated the IFP and the ANC leaders.

“The EFF wanted to govern Newcastle Local Municipality which is one of the KZN economic hubs. It was a disaster and that is why the ANC decided to work with IFP,” said one leader who didn’t want to be named.

EFF provincial chairperson Vusi Khoza denied the accusations. He said the IFP and the ANC didn’t want to work with them because they were scared they would expose their corrupt activities in municipalities.

“We want to know if it is bullying if we demand land expropriation without compensation, or ask for free electricity for pensioners and sanitary towels for our women?” said Khoza.

“Those parties didn’t want to be in coalition with us because they don’t want the EFF to be close to power because they are scared it will expose their corruption.”

He said the ANC and IFP coalition is a sign that the two parties cannot be trusted even in 2024.

He said when the council sittings begin there will be many surprises which may lead to the election of EFF councillors as mayors.

“Most local representatives of these parties are not happy at all about their arrangements,” said Khoza.
