The KZN ActionSA chair has revealed that the party did not contest all municipalities in the province so that the IFP and NFP had space to remove the ANC in Northern KZN.
Shortly after the IEC announced the official results of the election on Thursday, Dr Makhosi Khoza told Scrolla.Africa that their plan worked well because they didn’t have many resources.
The party surprised many when it won four seats in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, five in kwaDukuza, and one in Newcastle Municipality.
“We had no resources and it was difficult to be seen everywhere. We took the decision that we won’t contest those big municipalities in Northern KZN. We gave IFP and NFP a space to remove the ANC in those areas and they did very well,” said Khoza.
Khoza is expected to be part of the new councillors in eThekwini under the ActionSA which is led by Herman Mashaba.
She said her party focused on the middle class because they believe that these are communities that are neglected by many political parties.
Khoza was tipped to be the mayor of EThekwini in 2011 during her time at the ANC when she was serving as the ANC chief whip in the provincial legislature and chair of Parliament’s standing committee on public accounts (Scopa).
The same year she was also tipped to be the municipal manager of eThekwini by the ANC but she was threatened to be killed and was forced to withdraw her candidacy as she was seen as a threat.
In that year her land in Hillcrest was invaded by her former ANC comrades who were trying to send a clear statement that she needed to withdraw as eThekwini municipal manager candidate.
Khoza believes that it’s time for the opposition to remove the ANC from the council of eThekwini. KZN has 18 hung municipalities. In 2011 there were 19.
