Following the release of her single “Good Shepherd”, singer Pebetsi Makgamatha is set to cement her place at the lofty heights of the gospel genre with her fourth album.
Pebetsi expects her latest project, the fourth in a 16-year career, to be released in the coming months under her own record label, titled Pebetsi Production.
Born into a rich Bapedi culture in Ga-Manyaka, Limpopo, Pebetsi’s uniqueness in the Gospel genre led to SABC offering her the chance to shoot a show stopping music video.
She had caught the channel’s attention with her singing in Pedi in the low-budget music video of the song “Kabelo Yaka” (My Gift), which she had sent to its gospel music show, Gospel Gold, in 2007.
Pebetsi said she shocked her primary school teachers at the tender age of eight with her “matured singing voice”, which led to competition glory for her school’s choir.
She was awarded “Best Leading Voice” in 1996 by her high school teachers, and since then she has never looked back.
Pebetsi released her debut album Kabelo Yaka in 2006, while completing a diploma in Commercial Education at Tshwane University of Technology.
